Bill Gates crashes Windows 98 during Live Demo

At the time and to some extent now, I was annoyed at the schadenfreude people sharing the clip were reveling in regarding the “humiliation” of Bill Gates when in reality I thought he handled it just fine and his quip that the product they are previewing is still being worked on, is the most legitimate of legitimate come-backs to that criticism. What isn’t legitimate is that Windows 98 did that sh*t all the gd damn time – you’d plug in a foreign device and it would crash the whole computer. When I got a Mac and realized their brag that it “just works” was actually true and I could indeed just plug in a keyboard or printer or mouse and being using it instead of getting error messages and prompts to download “drivers”, I officially pulled the hood over my head to enter the Apple Cult.
