Edward Nygma returns home on his first day of crazy. Having recently extracted his bosses brain waves with his new invention and then getting away with murdering him, Nygma creates his first riddle and drops it off at Wayne manner.
Reminds me of the summer of 95 every time.
From the Christmas episode of Batman Gotham Knights.
Joel Schumacher apologized for Batman and Robin. It’s hard for me to accept since I AM one of those people who loved Batman Forever (despite its awful neon flashy changes) and went into Batman and Robin with… well, no. I aniticpated it being awful. I had done my research. But still. That’s no excuse.
Two Face crashes the party while Edward Nygma looks on from at home and is very impressed. The highlight is the back and forth of Edward enjoying and becoming inspired by Two Faces command and flair in handling the situation, which climaxes at the answer of what he wants to gain from the take over.
Two Face: Our new act for your personal amazement; we call it - Massacre Under The Big Top!
Mayor: What the hell do you want Harvey?
Two Face: Want? Mr Mayor?….Batman. Bruised, broken, bleeding. In a word; DEAD!
Edward: aaaaaaaahaaahahaha!
*Sigh…..
I watched this many times back in the day. The only thing I always thought was over the top though was Two Face’s “bad side” meal. Chard heart of black boar? A side of raw donkey meat? Sterno ingrain alcohol straight up baby?… wtf? No one eats that. I don’t care how psychotic.
Harley reflects on what led to her partnering with the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker.
The comic book that this episode was adapted from was originally released in 1994 as a special issue of The Batman Adventures based on the show Batman: The Animated Series. It won the Eisner Award for “Best Single Story.”
Poison Ivy is seen in Arkham Asylum during the flashback to Harley Quinn’s origins, meaning that this episode takes place at least after Poison Ivy’s premiere episode, “Pretty Poison”. This episode takes place with the designs of Batman and the Joker from Batman Gotham Knights in Harley’s flashback of how she became Harley Quinn. But at that time she was in Batman: The Animated Series which had different designs for them.
Allusions:
Joker: May the Floss be with you. This is a direct allusion to the movie Star Wars, even more so because it was Mark Hamill, voicing the Joker, who said it as Luke Skywalker.
Title: While there have been several movies by this name, the title almost certainly alludes to the most famous - the 1935 movie starring Peter Lorre as an insane doctor obsessed with a beautiful woman who replaces her mutilated hands with those of a knife murderer.
Batman and Superman have a discussion on who’s gay. Audio from the 40 year old Virgin in a scene that was ad libbed.
